We haven't had time to put together an After Action Report on this scenario, but it went very well and we had a blast. We had about 30 players participate, including several players from Streight 5150 and 702 Recon in Las Vegas.

Background:

In late October, rogue members of the Chechen mafia smuggled a Russian-made tactical nuclear weapon into the border area between Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan. Their intent was to sell the weapon to Al-Qaida terrorists. U.S. Special Operations Forces were sent into the valley to intercept them and recover the device. Unfortunately, the mission was unsuccessful (See Operation BlackThorn) See Operation Black Thorn

Unfortunately, the mission was not successful and the device was not recovered by U.S. forces. However, all is not lost. Human intelligence sources report that the nuclear weapon was captured by a group of local IMU (Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan), who have refused to turn it over to Al-Qaida and are bargaining to make a sale themselves. The IMU has the weapon hidden in an unknown location, and there is an intensive ongoing U.S. intelligence collection effort to find it.

Two days ago, a USAF unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) was able to gather precise data on the nuke's location. But, due to heavy thunderstorms and a probable lightning strike, the aircraft was unable to pass the data through satellite links, and crashed. The crash location has been identified, and it is highly likely the electronic data package is still intact. If it can be recovered by U.S. forces, the data can be analyzed to find the missing nuke.

A U.S. Army Ranger Company (Blue Team) has been dispatched to the area to find the data package. Their mission is to move to crash site, secure it, recover the data package (black box), and bring it back. Two factors complicate their mission. First, there are IMU insurgents in the area, some occupying prepared fighting positions. Second, there is a timed self-destruct mechanism on the data package. If it is not recovered in time, the electronics will be destroyed and the intelligence data pinpointing the nuke will be lost. Speed will be of the essence.
